I have already answered questions regarding “playing very fast”. The ability to play any notes durations at any tempo is a common thing for a good performer. You cannot imagine playing in any other way. But you have to keep in mind that “playing fast” sometimes cannot be called playing at all. Besides that, I have never seen a person who wanted to play fast and could actually play fast. All those people just rushed. They strummed some kind of sound series, which were assembled in such a way to allow for a comfort hit with the right as well as the left hand. Those series cannot even be called phrases. And you can just forget about the melody. These series were divided into durations that they (fast-playing persons) could never fit into. They were trying to fit into the very first duration of each series, and never cared about what is going on inside. And there was always a complete chaos inside.
Each of them always had long talks about the sound production (if asked by someone) but in their “playing” there were not any sign of sound production at all.
The separate subject is that their articulation covered only left-hand playing and alternate picking. You could never decipher from the first time what those people strum. And the reason for all that is not tempo or durations, but awful strumming devoid of any sound definition. You could make it sure once again when they were showing how they strum slow pieces. Words are useless to describe that!
You can write for a very long time about the “playing fast” phenomenon on the electric guitar, but nothing good comes to mind that is worth writing. That is why I am concluding here the description of this thing.
Tempo and durations, whatever they may be, just one of the factors of how music affects the listener. Those who are satisfied with just “playing fast” cannot be called refined and even more sublime and spiritual.
